Highway 56 motorists near Adams will encounter a detour beginning June 16 as a project commences to replace two bridges.

Two bridges on Highway 56 — one west of Adams over Little Cedar Creek and an unnamed creek in Adams — will be replaced, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. ICON Constructors of Mabel, Minnesota, is the prime contractor in the $1.42 million project. A detour will be in effect during construction. The project is scheduled to be completed in September.

In Adams, the westbound detour on Highway 56 will follow Mower County Road 18 south to Mower County Road 6 west to Mower County Road 7 north where it connects with Mower County Road 5 north back to Highway 56 west of Adams. The eastbound route follows in reverse.

A separate project will begin July 11 to replace culverts along Highway 56. Seven culverts will be replaced: three north of Rose Creek and four south of Adams, which will require an additional detour.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
