The Riverland Community College baseball team split a doubleheader against Luther JV on the road Monday. The Blue Devils won the opener 10-0 in five innings but they lost the nightcap 5-4 in eight innings when they allowed an unearned run with two outs in the final at bat of the game.

RCC (9-5 overall) racked up eight extra base hits in the game and Luther had zero extra base hits. Risandro Pastor, who went four-for-seven on the day, hit a game-tying two-run homer to force extra innings in the nightcap and Alex Roosen hit a three-run homer in the first inning of the opening game.

RCC opened the first game with six straight hits as it jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

“We’re losing a lot of close games, but we’ll be fine,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “There’s a lot of talent on this team and if we come together, we’ll do pretty well. We’ve got a lot of guys that can swing the bat.”

RCC is battling a few injuries right now and Koenigs said his squad should play when those players get healthy.
