Staying in shape during the holidays

Published 9:28 am Tuesday, December 22, 2015

It is possible to enjoy the holidays without over indulging and putting on those extra five or 10 pounds, but there is some effort involved.

The most important thing is to make a plan. Over Christmas and New Years the average adult will be eating foods that they normally avoid during the entire year. Think “quality” versus “quantity.”

Choose okay to eat things and occasional “forbidden” food. Stay busy, substitute wisely and be deliberate. Don’t cheat, be careful with grazing and decide what you’ll allow yourself to enjoy.

Members here at the Y have the opportunity to participate in a variety of challenges, along with Back to Fitness Bootcamp, and a variety of fitness classes.

Many have said they like the challenges; it gives them something to focus on during the busy holiday season.
