Joyce O. Trom, 88, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin.

Joyce Orraine Peterson was born March 29, 1927, to Ormanzo and Mabel (Thompson) Peterson. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School before completing her teacher’s training at the Normal School in Austin. On Aug. 15, 1948, Joyce was united in marriage to Ralph M. Trom at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin. The couple raised five children. Joyce taught country school for three years, and then operated her own catering business with her sister, Mildred Christianson. She was employed for several years as manager and head chef at the Oaks Country Club in Hayfield, as well as catering events at the Servicemen’s Club, and working as a sales clerk at Harriet’s Dres-Wel in Blooming Prairie and Lundberg’s in Austin. A member of First Lutheran Church where she was an active volunteer, Joyce enjoyed cooking, playing cards and playing bingo with her grandchildren. She belonged to the homemaker’s group Prairie Chix, Eastern Star, the American Legion auxiliary and the V.F.W. auxiliary. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters: Janell Smith of Bonita Springs, Florida, Sharman (Thomas) Walerak of Hayfield, Minnesota, Becky (Mark) Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Lisa (Kurt) Schrom of Newnan, Georgia, and her son Tim (Cathy) Trom of Byron, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her brother Francis (Marge) Peterson of Spooner, Wisconsin; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ormanzo and Mabel Peterson; her husband Ralph Trom in 2006; her sons-in-law James Smith and Jeff Polen; four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Charles Leonard officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the churchon Sunday. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Blooming Prairie. Memorials can be directed to First Lutheran Church or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
