Brownsdale Study Club
Beryl Sprung entertained the Brownsdale Study Club at her home on Sept. 16.
Ten members answered roll call with favorite soft cover book and the reading of the collect.
The August minutes were read by Rena and Treasurers report was given and accepted as read..
Our new business was the calendar booklets for 2015-2016. Roll calls were added and corrections made. Send Eileen O’Connor a “thank-you” for preparing our booklets.
Our next meeting will be with Mildred Johnson on Oct. 21.
LaVonne Skov had the outside reading on an article, “What do you call it?” a game of Duck, Duck Grey Duck or Duck, Duck Goose?” What do you call one dish meals? Hot dish or casserole? The Post Bulletin had the answers by Laura Gossman. Rena Perrigo had the main topic on September events, one being Patriot Day on Sept. 11. In remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001 by the actions of a few we honor those who lost their lives on that day. The Pentagon Memorial remembers the 184 passengers aboard American Airlines Flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon.
A field of honor and a white marble wall remember flight 93 with the names of 40 who died that day. We think of the brave souls who fought with the four hijackers for control of the plane, crashing it into a field instead of into Washington D.C. building. Only 18 minutes flying time from Washington D.C. possibly the Capitol. An estimated 21 million people have visited the 1,776-foot One World Trade Center. The museum has seen 3.6 million visitors since 2014 opening.
The Ohio Statehouse displayed nearly 3,000 flags in remembrance as the article by the Associated Press stated. It’s been 14 years, but #neverforget.
Duplicate Bridge
Tournament results for Sept. 23, 2015, five tables played: First place, Barb Engebretson and Orrion Roisen; second place: Bud Higgins and Loren Cleland; third place, Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends; fourth place, Harriet Oldenburg and Dave Ring.
Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. All Bridge players are welcome. Call Dave Ring at 507-434-4189.
