Beryl J. Madson, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus, Rochester.

Beryl Joan Johnson was born Dec. 5, 1930, in Pleasant Valley Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to John and Hazelle (Vincent) Johnson. She attended school in Dexter before moving to Austin at age 13. Beryl was a 1948 graduate of Austin High School. On June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to LeVerne Madson at Dexter United Methodist Church. Beryl worked in the office at Woolworth’s, and later worked as a dietary supervisor at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin (now Mayo Clinic Health System) from 1972 until her retirement in 1989. She belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin. Her faith was a very important part of her life. A devoted mother, Beryl was very active in her children’s lives. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, fishing, and following the Minnesota Twins. Beryl was blessed with a sharp mind her entire life. After farming and raising their five children in the London, Lyle, and Oakland areas, LeVerne and Beryl moved to Austin in 1994. LeVerne passed away Nov. 5, 2009.

Beryl is survived by her children: Lloyd (Laurel) Madson, and Sandy (Darol) Heard, both of Austin, Laurie Rosas (Jim Sievers) of South Haven, Minnesota, Alan Madson of St. Petersburg, Florida; son-in-law Tom Stolzenberg of Lake City, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Bruce (Barbara) Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota, Darryl (Mary Ann) Johnson of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; one sister Corinne ‘Dee Dee’ (Richard) Gieser of Thomas, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law Wayne Helgeson of Lyle, Minnesota, and Jack Koopal of Johnston, Iowa; sister-in-law Connie Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Hazelle Johnson; her husband LeVerne Madson; her daughter Kathy Stolzenberg; and her sister Linda (Lyle) Neville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
