Though Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers reported to MLB spring training in Florida earlier this week, Minnesota is still firmly entrenched in winter.
A system brought consistent snow to Austin area Wednesday, and 2.7 inches had fallen as of 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. About 2 to 4 inches was possible, and the snow was expected to taper off by 5 p.m. The heaviest snow had fallen near Fort Dodge, Iowa, which had gotten 5 inches.
Then, the region is expected to plummet into another cold spell for the rest of the work week.
Overnight, temperatures should reach about minus 2 with wind chills at 15 to 30 below. Highs will only reaching about 5 degrees on Thursday before reaching about 13 below that night. Friday’s high will reach 9 with overnight lows of minus 9 below.
The National Weather Service will likely issue wind chill advisories during the cold spell. Temperatures should warm up to a high of 15 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday. However, the weather service is watching a system that could bring accumulating snow to the area on Saturday and Sunday, but it’s too early to predict what the system could bring.
