Mildred L. Ditlevson, 102, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Prairie Manor Care Center.
Mildred Lucille Voogd was born Nov. 23, 1911, in Stout, Iowa, to John and Tena (Schoen) Voogd. She grew up in the Brownsdale/Waltham area, and graduated from Austin High School in 1929. Following graduation, Mildred worked as a bookkeeper and secretary. It was at her job working at the Ford garage in Blooming Prairie that she met her future husband. Mildred and Roosevelt Ditlevson were married Sept. 4, 1936, in Blooming Prairie. The couple raised four children. After their marriage, she worked with her husband on their farm northwest of Blooming Prairie. Mildred loved flower gardening, crossword puzzles, and watching the evening news and ‘Wheel of Fortune.’ She was an excellent baker and canner. A member of First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie, Mildred was active in the Ladies Aid, Eastern Star, Band Mothers and Prairie Manor Auxiliary. She was also a member of 4-H, where she was named an outstanding leader.
Mildred is survived by her children: Sharon Kartes of Blooming Prairie, Kathleen (Richard) Hills of Torrance, California, Virginia (Harlan) Gekeler of Waseca, and Mark Ditlevson (Renee Worke) of Owatonna; six grandchildren: Anthony ‘T.J.’ Kartes, Trent Kartes, Kimberly Giblin, Jesse Pike, Mark “Rosy” Ditlevson, and Michael “Mick” Ditlevson; several great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Tena Voogd; her husband Roosevelt Ditlevson in 1971; her siblings; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Matthew Fennel officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. There will be no reviewal at the church. Interment will be in the Danish Baptist Cemetery, Blooming Prairie, following the service. Memorials can be directed to the Danish Baptist Cemetery or donor’s choice.
