ALBERT LEA — Albert Lea’s finance director has decided to terminate her employment with the city, effective June 20, according to a news release.

Terry Berg has been on paid leave since May 16 after city officials received an allegation about her from another employee.

The Albert Lea City Council will consider approving a severance agreement between the city and Berg in a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, following the council’s regularly scheduled workshop, the release stated.

The severance agreement calls for the city to pay Berg the equivalent of three months of salary, along with the entire employer and employee share of the monthly premium toward her life insurance, dental insurance and health insurance through Sept. 30.

“Ms. Berg is a highly skilled financial officer,” said City Manager Chad Adams. “We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Adams said though the investigation into the allegation was never completed, city officials and Berg agreed that a separation was the best outcome for both parties.

Though the specifics of the allegation have not been released, Adams said it did not deal with financial management or criminal activity.
