The Riverland Community College softball team used a pair of solid pitching performances to sweep Minnesota West (5-20 overall, 2-12 MCAC South) by scores of 9-0 and 3-0 in its home opener in Riverland Monday.

Brooke Erickson pitched a seven inning, two-hit shutout in the second game and Lexie Schunke pitched a five inning, three-hit shutout in the opener.

The Blue Devils (12-6 overall, 8-4 MCAC South) are in the thick of the MCAC Southern Division playoff race as the Blue Devils, Rochester, St. Cloud and Ridgewater are all fighting for three postseason spots.
