The Riverland Community College baseball team fell to University of Connecticut-Avery Point 8-2 and topped Inside Pitch Academy 2-1 in Vero Beach, Fla. Monday.
RCC beat Avery Point, which is ranked No. 8 in NJCAA Division II, 9-2 and it lost 4-3 in nine innings to Kirkwood in Vero Beach, Fla. Sunday.
“We’ve got a lot of freshman and we’ve got some work to do, but we’re getting after it we’re a pretty good team,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said.
Kenny Perez hit a two-run homer in the first inning of the win over Avery Point for RCC (5-3 overall) and he finished that game with five RBIs. The Blue Devils had plenty of runners on base in extra innings against Kirkwood, but they couldn’t put in the key run.
“We had all kinds of opportunities and we couldn’t get that clutch hit or get a bunt down,” Koenigs said.
