The Southland girls basketball team beat No. 5 seeded Randolph (11-14 overall) 71-48 in the Section 1A West quarterfinals in Adams Thursday.

The No. 4 seeded Rebels (16-10 overall) started a little slow, but they finished strong as McKenzie Kirtz led the way with 22 points.

“We started out tight and sluggish, then we hit a few shots and started to pull away,” Southland head coach Bob Sheehan said. “After we relaxed we played fine.”

The Rebels will now play top-ranked and top-seeded Goodhue in the Section 1A semifinals in Mayo Civic Center Auditorium Monday at 6 p.m. The Rebels will be focused on Goodhue’s 2,000 points scorer Mikayla Miller.

“I’ve been told that if we can stop her we’ll have a chance, but stopping her is pretty difficult,” Sheehan said.
