(2) Grand Meadow football team wins state title on head coach Gary Sloan’s 150th career win.

The Superlarks had their minds on a state title ever since they lost the state title game in 2012 to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley, but a tough regular season loss to Lanesboro made the Larks the No. 3 seed in their own section. Grand Meadow made some lineup changes after that loss to the Burros, and they hit their stride from that point on. They led from wire-to-wire in most of their playoff contests and they put the cap on it with a 28-6 win over Underwood. Trenton Bleifus and Landon Jacobson led the Larks on both sides of the ball as GM’s defense set the tone in all of their wins. The state championship was sweet for the entire town of GM, but the fact that it was head coach Gary Sloan’s 150th career win made the celebration even bigger. Sloan was presented with a helmet signed by the whole team after the game.
