Shirley J. Meier, 86, of Brownsdale, Minn., died Monday evening, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Shirley Jean Jukes was born July 19, 1927, in Brownsdale, to Walter and Bernice (Schafer) Jukes. She graduated from Austin High School in 1945, and then married Donald Meier on April 22, 1949. The couple lived on the family farm, where Shirley made her life as a homemaker. Her family was at the center of her life. She enjoyed yard work and flower gardening, figure skating, baking and cooking, sewing, antiquing, and dancing. Over the years, Shirley was very active in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Brownsdale.
Survivors include her children, Tim (Kriss) Meier, of Owatonna, Minn.; Janelle Kramer, of Rochester; and Susan (Michael) Ziegler, of Lincoln, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Kara Martin, Kjersten (Alex) Loeffler, Mark (Amy) Meier, Matt Meier (fiancée Ali Jo Forester) , Jon (Audrey) Ziegler, Dan Ziegler (girlfriend Nicole Hansen), Kelli (Austin) Thoms, Kyle Ziegler, and Kellen Kramer; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Chase, Madelynn, Samantha, Siri, and Bergen; one sister, Nellie Wanous, of Brownsdale; sisters-in-law Marcine Jukes, Marlis (LeRoy) Buland, MaryLou (Duane) Maxfield, all of Austin, Donna Lane of Fremont, NE; brother-in-law Merrill (Bonnie) Meier, Austin; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Meier, in Sept. 2012, her parents, Walter and Bernice Jukes, one brother, Wally Jukes, two sisters, Mildred Schmeling and Helen Fiebiger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale with Rev. Jeffery Sage officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Brownsdale. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
