The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team held off Dort JV 86-81 in its season opener in the Minnesota West Tournament Friday.

Andrew Lau of Glenville-Emmons led RCC (1-0 overall) with 34 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Brandon Kowalski, who missed last season with an ACL injury, added 21 points and four steals.

“Our guys got to the basket and drew a lot of fouls on their big guys,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “It was a very good game and I was happy with the way we competed.”
