Second run to feature neon attire
Dozens of runners will brighten up the streets of Austin Friday night — with neon.
The second annual Light the Night 5K run/walk will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the YMCA. Cost to run is $25 and all proceeds go to Desperate Tears, a suicide prevention group, and the Austin YMCA.
The run is held in October during Mental Health Month, and organizer Shelley LeTendre said the nighttime run is meant to show there’s always a better answer than suicide and there’s always brightness if you look for it.
“No matter how dark it gets, there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel,” LeTendre said, describing the run’s mission.
Last year, about 150 people ran, and the run raised about $1,500 after expenses.
