Golden Age Club

The monthly meeting of the Golden Age Club was May 1 at the Austin Moose Lodge, presided by Hazel Baldner, chairperson.

Our chaplain, Dee Murphy, read the poem “A Prayer for Peace.” Sylvia Ginder made the motion, seconded by Shirley DeYoung, to accept the secretary and treasurer’s reports as read. A May wedding anniversary will be celebrated by Don Hoban. A May birthday will be celebrated by Gen Moeykens.

Cards (500) were played at 10 tables. Lunch was served by Marion Zimmerman.

Brownsdale Study Club

The Brownsdale Study Club met at the home of Beryl Sprung on April 17. The meeting was opened with the reading of the collect. The minutes from the March meeting were reaad and approved, and a treasurer’s report was given. Roll call was favorite spring event — 10 members were present.

Old business: The club discussed possible trip ideas, including Rose Creek Restaurant and Log Cabin nearby, Blue Belle Inn in St. Ansgar, Hormel Institute and eat at Old Mill.

Beryl gave the main topic, about a teacher of austistic children, who also provides learning tools for other teachers in 10 northeastern Twin Cities surburban districts. Advice on losing weight followed, and Dorothy had the outside reading.

There was no new business. Ida will entertain for May. Roll call: What do you plan to plant for spring?

Duplicate Bridge

Tournament results for May 1 with five tables played: first, Bud Higgins and Jim Fisher; second, Rick Stroup and Gene Domino; third, Lu Schmitt and Loren Cleland; fourth, Joyce Crowe and Helen Ringham.

Duplicate Bridge is played each Wednesday at noon at the Senior Citizen Center. All Bridge players are welcome.
