Harold Irving Paine, 76, of Austin, Minn., died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his home.

Harold was born Sept. 23, 1936, in Lewiston, Maine, to Leon and Mythel (Crooker) Paine. He attended high school in Mechanic Falls, Maine. Harold enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 1954, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969. He served his country in many areas of the world. He retired from the Marines in May 1974. On March 5, 1958, Harold was united in marriage to Kathryn Luthe on Treasure Island in San Francisco, Calif. Harold worked for Securitas Security Services for 21 years, retiring in March 2013. An active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1216 and the American Legion Post 91, he served as 1st district commander for the VFW from 1986 to 1987. An outdoors lover, Harold enjoyed traveling and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Paine of Austin; his children, Brian (Marilyn) Paine of Greenleaf, Wis., Bruce Paine of Austin, Nancy (Neal) Deffenbaugh of West Bend, Wis., Jane (Kim) Steavens, also of West Bend; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Michael, Ashleigh, Zachary, Nicholas, Jeremy, David, Krisha, Jason and Brooke; 11 great-grandchildren; brother James (Delores) Paine of Oxford, Maine. He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Mythel Paine, his son Bradley, his sister Aletha Jacques, and his father-in-law Albert Luthe.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Austin with Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
