John Hill, 82, Elmore

Memorial services for John W. Hill will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Military honors will be given by the Albert Lea veterans organizations.
John Hill died on Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was 82 years old.
John was born on Oct. 10, 1930, in Stanhope, Iowa, the son of Kendall and Mary (Fardell) Hill. He graduated from Stanhope High School before enrolling in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. On Feb. 27, 1954, he was united in marriage to Marjorie R. Fortune in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Together they raised three children. They moved throughout the Midwest, spending time in various cities in Iowa and Illinois, as well as California. They settled in Albert Lea for 18 years before moving to Minneapolis for 20 years, and in 2005, made their home in Elmore.
John was an auto body mechanic for 60 years. He worked for various body shops including Minnesota Auto Body in Minneapolis. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed gardening, fishing, music and dancing with his wife at the American Legion and VFW Friday nights.
John is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hill, of Elmore; children, Gayle Hill (special friend Carl Jackson) of Hartland, Steven (Lida) Hill of Woodbury, Janet Hill of Albert Lea; friend of the family, Jay Vollmer; grandchildren, Nissa Nordland of St. Louis Park, Ashley Hill of Minneapolis, Danika Hill of Woodbury, Phanith (Navy) Sam of Lakeville, Chanlyna Sam of Florence, Ala., Sydeth Sam of Woodbury and Aun Youvara of Phom Penh, Cambodia; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Hill.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Marian Kendall Hill and Joan Ferguson.
