Maynard Arthur Eppen, 90, of Brownsdale, Minn., passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2013, at Primrose in Austin, Minn.

Maynard was born on Aug. 12, 1922, near Zumbrota, Minn., to Arthur and Marie (Diercks) Eppen. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1941, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from July 16, 1942, to Dec. 23, 1945.

On Dec. 3, 1949, Maynard was united in marriage to Elizabeth Martha Kuegele in Shawneetown, Miss. The couple were blessed with five children. Elizabeth preceded Maynard in death on Jan. 20, 2009.

Maynard worked as bulk delivery driver for Standard Oil. He also owned and operated a resort. He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Brownsdale.

Maynard Arthur Eppen is survived by his children, Dale and Hisako Eppen, Fountain, Minn., Sandra and David Grant, Austin, Alan and Ellen Eppen, Edgeley, N.D., Dean and Wilma Eppen, Charlotte, Maine; 10 grandchildren, Jason and Angela Grant, Leonard Grant, Eric and Kara Grant, Angella and Bryan Van Scharrel, Brian and Kim Eppen, John and Dyan Eppen, Sarah Eppen, Timothy Eppen, Rebekah Eppen, Daniel Eppen, 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Bredehoft; and one brother, Burton Eppen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his infant daughter; his parents Arthur and Marie Eppen; one brother; and one sister.

The funeral service for Maynard Arthur Eppen will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 401 Main St. W in Brownsdale with the Rev. Jeff Sage officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Brownsdale with military honors by the Austin American Legion. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home in Brownsdale is in charge of arrangements.
