Richard Q Quentin Hoefs, 84

Richard Q. Quentin Hoefs, 84, of Grand Meadow died Tuesday in a truck accident near Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born June 11, 1926, and grew up in rural Warren Township near Lewiston. He was united in marriage to Margaret Oldham at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Winona on June 21, 1947. Together, they lived in the Lewiston area until 1963, when they moved to Grand Meadow.

Richard was a life long truck driver, driving for 56 years. He started at the age of 16 in the Lewiston area hauling milk locally and hauling eggs to Chicago and New York. After moving to Grand Meadow, Richard continued trucking as an Owner Operator until 1993. At that time, he started driving for Stier Farms (leased by Jacobson Transportation Co. of Wahpeton, N. D.) until the time of his death.

He is survived by his children: Edward (Rosemary) Hoefs of Hayfield, James (Susan) Hoefs of Lewiston, Karl (Deborah) Hoefs of Spring Valley, Cynthia (Joel) Goodell of Humboldt, Iowa and Kenneth (Ann) Hoefs and Babara (Leon) Russell of Grand Meadow; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Viola (Duncanson); Hoefs, his wife,

Margaret; son, Roger; granddaughter, Amanda and brother, John.

Funeral services for Richard Q. Hoefs will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with the Rev Ann Siverling officiating. Burial will take place in the Grand Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and one hour prior to services at the church.
