After a period of fairly quiet weather since Christmas, another storm is expected to come Austin’s way beginning after midnight Friday.

National Weather Service officials are predicting freezing rain and sleet through Saturday morning — the same system that walloped California.

“We could get upwards of a couple of tenths of an inch of accumulation of ice,” said Dave Schmidt meteorologist for the NWS. “It’s enough to cause headaches that’s for sure. It’s going to cause some glazing.

Schmidt said the sleet will transition to rain Saturday afternoon before the rain mixes with snow Saturday night and into Sunday.
