The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team was coming off a solid win over Fergus Falls on Saturday, but the momentum certainly didn’t carry over as the Blue Devils started flat and lost 92-71 to Western Wisconsin Tech in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Cavaliers (8-10 overall, 3-2 MCAC) jumped out to a 34-12 lead and the Blue Devils (6-12 overall, 3-4 MCAC) never got closer than 11 the rest of the way. RCC shot just 33 percent from the field, while WWT went 12-for-18 on three-pointers.

“In this game I think it was preparation,” RCC assistant coach Eric Perry said. “If you don’t come prepared for games and if you don’t listen to the scouting report in practice it will show in games. They got the better of us because we were not prepared for the game.”

RCC freshman Donte Makazu, who is from Delta, British Columbia, had a big game in the paint as he tallied 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting and he grabbed eight rebounds.

“From practice to the game, he’s really gotten better,” Perry said. “We’ve worked on post moves and different scenarios with him and I like where he’s going. He has the potential to really be good if he continues to work.”
