John T. Sebastian, 89, of Ahwatukee, Arizona, died unexpectedly on Jan. 21, 2016.

He was born to John and Elizabeth (Rill) Sebastian in Chicago, Illinois, on April 11, 1926. After graduating from Calumet High School, he was signed to the Cubs. John was with the Cubs organization from 1943-1952. He served in the Navy during WWII. John met the love of his life, Hazel, during spring training in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1949. They raised their four children in Austin, Minnesota, and later moved to Arizona. John and Hazel were married for 51 years before Hazel’s death in 2001. John was a wonderful, generous, and hardworking man of integrity who loved his family. He had a great sense of humor, made everyone laugh and was loved by all.

His survivors include three daughters: Louise (John) Reding, Maryanne Hulcher, Lisa Hansen; daughter-in-law, Pam Sebastian; six  grandchildren: Sarah (Mark) MacKenzie, Laura Hulcher, John Reding, Ryan Sebastian, Sebastian Hansen, and Amanda Hansen; and six great-grandchildren: Jackson MacKenzie, Carter MacKenzie, Madison MacKenzie, Grant MacKenzie, Ashley Hulcher, and Lincoln MacKenzie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel C. Sebastian; his son, John Sebastian; two son-in-laws: Gerald J. Hansen and Scott Hulcher; and his grandson, Travis Hulcher.

Services will be held at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, Arizona.
