Richard J. Olson, 86, passed away Sept. 11, 2015, at home in Austin, Minnesota, from cancer.

Richard was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Austin, to Joseph and Mildred Olson. He graduated from Austin High School and was in the Navy.

Richard was employed at Weyerhaeuser in Austin for 36 years where he retired.

Richard married Peggy Burns on March 10, 1952. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling, and was a lifetime member of the Austin Amateur Radio Club which he greatly enjoyed, and the Austin VFW.

Richard is survived by daughters: Pamela (Paul) Byron, Georgia, Paula Coddington, Austin; grandchildren: Trista, Pennsylvania, Steven, Hayfield, Carly, Colorado, and Amy, Austin; great-grandchildren: Sadie and Jude; four sisters and one brother.

He was preceded in death by parents; and his wife Peggy.

He was a very kind and gentle man, and is greatly missed. The family would like to specifically thank his family and friends for their prayers and support before and after his passing.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 8, 2015, at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center Ruby Rupner Auditorium with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery after the service.
