Gerald ‘Jerry’ Kerrins, 77

Gerald “Jerry” Kerrins, 77, a Grand Meadow, Minnesota, area farmer for the past 50 years, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, peacefully in his sleep at Our House in Austin, Minnesota, where he had resided for the past three years.

Jerry was born Feb. 9, 1938, in Wesley, Iowa, to Charles V. and Edna E. (Loebig) Kerrins. He moved to Grand Meadow as a young boy and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1956. He was enlisted in the Marines from 1956 to 1960. He returned to Grand Meadow and began farming with his father.

He married Catherine (Kitty) McGrath in 1964, and to this union three children were born: Chuck (Lori Hanson) of Grand Meadow, Amy (Charles) Roberts of Golden Valley, Minnesota, and Scott (Kim) of Grand Meadow. They later divorced, and he married Louise Hardecopf in 1989. He worked at Mayo Clinic for 22 years and farmed in Grand Meadow until 2011.

Jerry was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, Adams Council, and St. Finbarr Catholic Church. Jerry loved farming, dancing, eating ice cream, and anything John Deere.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Louise of Austin, Minnesota; his three children; four grandsons; three step sons: Kim (Vicki) Hardecopf of Dexter, Minnesota, Kevin (Mary) Hardecopf of Adams, Minnesota, and Kelly (Melissa) Hardecopf of Rochester, Minnesota; eight step-grandchildren; two great-step-grandchildren; eight siblings: Bob (Marlene) Kerrins of Palto Alto, California, Nadine Corsi of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marlys (Ben) Ruzicka of Eagan, Minnesota, Kay Kerrins of Los Angeles, California, Sandra (Bill) Allaire of Wabasha, Minnesota, Connie Kerrins of St. Paul, Minnesota, Copper Slettum of Hampton, Minnesota, Randy Christensen of Hampton, Minnesota, and Dan (Tammy) Kerrins of Aurora, Illinois; brother-in-law, Ron Lee of Rosemount, Minnesota; the mother of his children, Kitty Kerrins of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna; and sister, Virginia Lee.

Funeral services for Jerry will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at St. Finbarr Catholic Church with Father Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
