Harland P. Peterson, 88, of rural Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at his home.

He was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Austin, Minnesota, to Osen and Ida (Thompson) Peterson. After he attended country school, Harland graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1944. On Nov. 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Laura Morrissey in Faribault, Minnesota. Laura passed away in 1972. Harland served his country in the U.S. Army for two years as a paratrooper during the Korean conflict. He made his living as a farmer, residing on the farm his entire life. A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and the American Legion, Harland enjoyed bowling, boating, riding motorcycles, and reading.

Survivors include his children: Dean (Dawn) Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Nancy (Norbert) Holland of Brownsdale, Minnesota, Brian (Laura) Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Kari Peterson of Brookings, South Dakota, Kelly Peterson of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Brent Holland of Glenville, Minnesota, Dan (Stephanie) Holland of Brownsdale, Minnesota, Brad Holland (fiancé Seaira Kramer) of Sargeant, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Corey) Johnson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Anna Peterson of Owatonna, Minnesota; three great-grandchildren: J.J., Eli, and Noah; sisters-in-law: Joyce Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Helen (Stanley) Nusbaum of Faribault, Minnesota, Ruth (Tom) Comstock of Zumbrota, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents Osen and Ida Peterson; his wife Laura Peterson; one brother Kinley Peterson; one sister Ione Carlsen; and his great-granddaughter Ava Holland.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin with the Rev. Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites by the Blooming Prairie American Legion Post 52 and V.F.W.
