Virginia Mary Elliott

Virginia Mary Elliott

Virginia was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Johnsburg, Minnesota, to Isidore and Katherine (Klapperich) Freund. She spent her youth in Johnsburg, attending St. John the Baptist Catholic School and serving ice cream at her parent’s general store. She attended high school in Adams, graduated and worked as a teller at the Adams Bank. She married Dean Francis Elliott on April 26, 1951, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg.

Virginia was a homemaker and an extraordinary seamstress. Once her children were raised, she worked as a home health aide because she had a natural ability to care for people. She had simple, friendly and charming wit that fascinated many. Virginia was a social butterfly who brought pleasure to many bustling shoppers in her final job as a dedicated, Walmart greeter.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Virginia was selfless, humble and put others first every time. Virginia loved to listen to a wide variety of music on her Bose sound system and often drew others into the sunroom at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center to sing, clap and dance.

Virginia especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was not unusual for someone to leave with a little gift bag or snack. She always enjoyed brewing a pot of coffee and visiting, regardless of the occasion. One main purpose in her life was to bring simple joy to others.

She is survived by her children: Kathryn (Dano) Lange, Rochester, Paul Elliott, New Prague, Ann (Richard) Soltau, LeRoy, Sharon O’Connor, Bloomington, Ronald Elliott, Rochester, Denise (Tim) Baker, Rosemount, and Margene (Brent) Gunderson, Austin; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ardella Dahle, Placerville, California, Lucille Blaser, Osage, Iowa, Bertilla Noble, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Orth, Pine River, and Angela Smith, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brothers: John (Jean) Freund, Winona, and Raphael (Ruth) Freund, Austin; sister-in-law, Phyllis Freund, Austin; brother-in-law Gervis Blaser, Osage, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Francis Elliott to whom she was married for 63 years; parents Isidore and Katherine Freund; sister, Lucina Blaser; brother, Delphine Freund; three infant siblings; brothers-in-law Don “Butch” Smith, Larry Orth, Howard Dahle, and Kenneth Blaser.

Thank you to Dr. Gregg, Grand Meadow Health Care Center, and Seasons Hospice staff for providing excellent care. Special thanks to Douglas “sonny boy” Ashton for his love and friendship.
