Robert ‘Bob’ Heathman, 93

Robert “Bob” Heathman, 93, formerly of LeRoy, Minnesota, died Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Ostrander Care and Rehab in Ostrander, Minnesota.

Robert Gene Heathman was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Balaton, Minnesota, to Clarence and Wilna (Cruickshank) Heathman. He attended and graduated from Des Moines Township Schools in 1939 and was united in marriage to Teresa “Fern” Tuttle at the Methodist Parsonage in Lake Field, Minnesota, on April 4, 1942. He was inducted into the United States Army on Nov. 21, 1944, and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged at Fort Leavenworth Kansas on March 22, 1946. Bob Farmed near Rolfe, Iowa, from 1942-1944 and from 1946-1955 when he moved to Le Roy, Minnesota, where he continued to farm for many years. He also worked for the Le Roy John Deere and for Koster Implement. In 1976, Bob and Fern moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where he worked for Apache Mall.

Bob was a Sunday School teacher and served as superintendent of the First Presbyterian Church. He helped plan and build the existing Presbyterian Church in Le Roy. Bob also enjoyed the many nights he spent on the road attending his grandson Joe and granddaughter K.J.’s many basketball games.

He is survived by his children: Robert Arlen (Joanne) Heathman of Rochester, Minnesota, June (Richard) King of McIntire, Iowa, and Jim Heathman of Johnson Creek, Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters: Carol (Richard) Struthers of Grove City, Minnesota, and Gwen Warden of Omaha, Nebraska; and one son-in-law, Jerry Whitney of Trenton, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Fern in 2008; two sons: Gerald Keith and Terry Gene; a daughter Carolyn; two granddaughters: Jennifer King and Sherri Heathman; one great-grandson Joshua; three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Bob will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Le Roy, Minnesota, with the Rev. Gary Titesdahl officiating. Private family burial will be in the Le Roy Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Le Roy and will continue at the church for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
