The Minnesota Department of Transportation hopes to talk to the public about the upcoming Highway 56 bridge replacements project set for 2016.

MnDOT engineers will be in Adams from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, at the Adams Fire Hall, 16 E. Main St., to talk about the project, including timelines, detours, and features on the new bridges.

The construction is expected to begin in mid-June 2016 and wrap up in September 2016. The two bridges are over the Little Cedar River two miles west of Adams and over an unnamed stream west of Fifth Street in Adams. Both were constructed in 1948. As the transportation system ages, it needs more work and funds to keep it in good condition.

The work includes grading, paving and replacement of the bridges, as well as guardrail installation.

The two bridges will have two 12-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders. The bridge in Adams will also have a 6-foot sidewalk on the north side of the bridge.

The project includes the construction of structurally sound crossings of waterways and provides other improvements adjacent to the area.
