Evelyn Grace Herr, 89, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2015, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Evelyn was born on Sept. 22, 1925, the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth (Dauner) Cross in Winnebago, Minnesota. Evelyn lost her mother at the age of 8, but was blessed to be raised by her loving father and stepmother, Lucille. Evelyn graduated from Austin High School in 1943. On Jan. 27, 1949, Evelyn married Herbert Herr and moved to the family farm near Brownsdale where they raised their six children. On Sept. 25, 1965, Evelyn’s husband Herb passed away at the age of 39. Evelyn trained as a home health aide and worked in Austin, Minnesota, from 1967 to 1976. She later worked at Seneca Food’s (Libby’s) and Lohn’s Bakery in Brownsdale and Hayfield, before retiring in 1989.

Evelyn enjoyed sewing, baking, playing cards and being with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of Brownsdale United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Dorcas Circle.

Evelyn is survived by her six children: William (Sue) Herr, Austin, Minnesota, Michael (Barbara) Herr, Rosemont, Minnesota, Joe Herr, Black Duck, Minnesota, Jerry Herr, Rochester, Minnesota, John (Libby) Herr of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Nancy (Keith) Larson, Rochester, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Olive (Dale) Kuethe, Fair Oaks, California, Nancy Goetch, Waco, Texas; Barbara (Jay) Diehl, Dillon, Montana; and one brother, Lee (Renee) Cross, Modesto, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert Herr; grandson, Dustin Herr; sister, Lois Calisti; and daughter-in-law, Karen Herr.

The memorial service for Evelyn Grace Herr will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the United Methodist Church, 100 Pleasant Street SE in Brownsdale with the Rev. Sharon Goetzinger officiating. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Czaplewski Family Home, 302 Market Street in Brownsdale, and one half-hour before the service on Saturday. The family prefers memorials to the Methodist Church in Brownsdale.
