Sandra Lee Beck was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Clyde and Lillian (Johnson) Beck. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. Sandra’s first marriage was to Donald Maxfield, Jr., who passed away just two years after they were married. On Nov. 24, 1962, she married K.B. Askland at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota. A member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Sandra was employed by First Bank, which later became U.S. Bank. She also belonged to the Eagles Auxiliary for 59 years, holding many offices. Her favorite pastimes were fly fishing, tap dancing, following the Minnesota Vikings, and traveling. She spent winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, for more than 20 years, and once spent three months in Alaska. In her younger years, Sandra was a contestant in the Miss Austin pageant and a majorette for the Austin High School Marching Band. A lifetime member of the V.F.W., she was also an avid hockey fan and doll collector, and was active as a leader in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She especially loved decorating for the holidays.

Sandra is survived by her husband K.B. Askland of Austin; her children: Connie (William) Hardwick of Austin, Kermit (Lori) Askland of London, Minnesota, and Timothy Askland; four grandchildren: Brandy Waldron, Billie Jo Braaten, Katie Johnson, Danny Hayes; and eight great-grandchildren.
