Luverne F. Homeier, 87, of Austin, and formerly of Faribault, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Sacred Heart Care Center, Austin.

Luverne Fredrick, the son of Herman and Hulda (Krakou) Homeier, was born on Oct. 4, 1927, in Faribault. He married Betty Barfknecht on Feb. 11, 1951, in Faribault. Luverne was employed by DHIA for 34 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, playing cards and the harmonica.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters: Nancy Homeier of Owatonna, and Shirley (and Bob) Olson of Austin; five grandchildren: Gabe Homeier (and Amy Vasey), Naomi (and Gideon) Thompson, James Homeier (and Andrea Rhodes), Greg Schmidt (and Lisa Washa), and Paul Schmidt (and Megan Radel); seven great-grandchildren: Michaela Homeier, Kelsey Homeier, Alyssa Homeier, Morgan Thompson, Drake Thompson, Ava Schmidt, and Addison Schmidt; one brother, Howard Homeier of Kenyon; one brother-in-law, Walter (and Margie) Barfknecht of Owatonna; other relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Harry Homeier and Harlan Homeier.

Funeral services will be at Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church, Faribault, on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Interment will be at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Faribault, with military rites provided by Rice County Central Veteran’s Association. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault, on Sunday, March 29, 2015, and also at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the services.
