The Riverland Community College women’s basketball team is virtually eliminated from the MCAC tournament, but the Blue Devils found something to play for when they completed the season sweep of Minnesota State-Fergus Falls (3-20 overall, 0-11 MCAC South) with a 69-57 win in Riverland Gym Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (6-18 overall, 3-8 MCAC South) never trailed in the game, but they didn’t exactly run away with it either. RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink was hoping her team would come out a little stronger.

“It’s good to get a win. We were hoping to play better and we weren’t very sharp, but we’ll take the win,” Hebrink said. “We didn’t do much real well, but it was good enough.”

RCC’s Charity Ridlon had 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists and Miriah Carruth had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Blue Devils have been in plenty of games this season, but with four freshman starting they haven’t been able to win too many close ones.

“It’s disappointing,” Hebrink said. “The only team we haven’t played well against was Rochester over there. All of our other games have been close.”
