The Riverland Community College sophomore Miriah Carruth had a giant impact for the Blue Devil women’s basketball team, but it wasn’t enough as they lost 94-91 in overtime at Western Tech. (7-10 overall, 2-3 MCAC South) in La Crosse, Wis. Wednesday.

Carruth, who is still playing with a broken finger, poured in a career-high and RCC record 48 points, to go along with 12 rebounds and seven assists. Carruth, who is from St. Paul Johnson, also had to sit down with cramps late in regulation. Mary Kuiters had the previous RCC single game scoring record when she scored 47 points in a 1999 game.

“Mariah certainly did all she could do for us hang on,” RCC head coach Suzy Hebrink said. “We just didn’t have enough help.”

RCC (4-14 overall, 1-4 MCAC South) led 82-80 late in the game, but they committed a foul in the backcourt. Tech missed both free throws, but it scored on a put-back to win the game.

“In the games we’ve gone into overtime, we really make some poor, poor mistakes that come back to bite us,” Hebrink said.
