S. Kenneth Kjarum, 90, died peacefully on April 21, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

A lifelong resident of Minnesota, he was born in a log cabin back in the woods on June 18, 1923, in Hovland, Minn. He was preceded in death by parents, Selmer and Idella Kjarum, sister June, beloved brother Roy and son Rodney. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Harriet (Tufte); daughters Cynthia Jo, Roxanne Rae (Susan), and Candace Kay; cherished grandchildren Darcy (Brent), Dara (Cliff), Adam (Abbi), Justin and Hannah; great grandchildren Cooper, Elise, Lillie, Carson, Lyla, and Marshal; sister Jean (Harold), brother Bill (Betty), cousin Benny Kjarum (Judy) and much loved nieces and nephew.

Prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1943, Kenny worked in the Conservation Corp Camps of Cook County. As a WWII veteran, he was a long time member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked for the Geo. A. Hormel company of Austin for 39 years and enjoyed a lively retirement of 33 years. An avid outdoorsman, bowler, and wood turner, he enjoyed selling his creations at local arts and crafts fairs. He was also a member of the Auxiliary Police in Austin, Minn. for a number of years. Of everything in the world, he was happiest spending time at the Kjarum family homestead in Hovland, Minn. There will be a small gathering of friends and family in memory of Kenny at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the second floor great room at White Pines Assisted living: 1235 Gun Club Rd., White Bear Lake, Minn.
