ROCHESTER — An Indiana woman who died earlier this year has left Mayo Clinic the third-largest estate gift in its history.

The Rochester-based clinic announced it got more than $43 million from Juanita Kious Waugh (KIGH-uss wah), who died at age 88 after managing a farming business for much of her life. Waugh and her parents were patients of Mayo Clinic for more than 60 years, and she made the gift in their names.

Mayo officials say funds from the bequest will provide operating and endowment funds to initiate and advance educational programs at the clinic’s campuses in Rochester; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Phoenix and Scottsdale, Ariz.
