Horner hopes to grab at middle in Minn. gov race

ST. PAUL — A third-party candidate in Minnesota’s race for governor says the Democratic and Republican nominees give him room to run a campaign up the middle.

Independence Party nominee Tom Horner assessed the race Wednesday after he advanced through a primary to face Republican Tom Emmer and Democrat Mark Dayton in November’s election.

Horner says voters want something other than the hard left or hard right.

The Independence Party has been a factor in the last two governor’s races and held the office for four years under Jesse Ventura.

Horner had little money on hand after the last campaign finance reporting period. But the former public relations executive says voters can expect to see his first TV ads before the State Fair.
