Winter returns with 6-9 inches expected
Winter is back with a vengeance.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Mower County until 6 p.m. Wednesday as a system is expected to dump 6 to 9 inches on the area as it moves in Tuesday.
Austin appears to be in the crosshairs of the system, as The National Weather Service in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, is calling for the heaviest snow to fall along Interstate 90.
The precipitation may start out as rain, but it’s expected to turn quickly into wet, slippery snow of rates of up to an inch per hour at times.
Thunder snow is also possible.
Tuesday and Wednesday’s highs were each expected to be around 33 degree, while the overnight low tonight should drop only to about 31 degrees.
Lows Tuesday will drop to around 22 before highs stay in the low to mid-20s the remainder of this week.
