A 2-year-old child is safe after a passerby found the toddler wandering an Austin street alone on Monday morning.

According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, police responded to the call at the 500 block of Sixth Street NW about 11:17 a.m. Monday and found the child’s home shortly after, as a neighbor identified the child. Krueger said the child — who was only wearing a diaper at the time — was not injured or sick. The report states that the child’s father was trying to baby-sit but fell asleep.

The report has been given to Mower County Human Services and the County Attorney’s office.
