MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota tax officials have lifted their freeze on accepting TurboTax returns.

Intuit, the company behind TurboTax, added new anti-fraud measures Friday after Minnesota and other states reported a rise in fraudulent filings.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue said it would start accepting returns filed via TurboTax software again at 3 p.m. Saturday. The department will continue reviewing returns and will remain in contact with the company.

Taxpayers who have already files their returns using TurboTax don’t need to do anything. The department says it will contact them if it finds issues.

Minnesota Revenue learned of the problem when some taxpayers reported that returns already had been filed in their names with stolen personal information.

Intuit says its systems were not breached, and it believes the personal data was stolen elsewhere.
