A Spring Valley man was sentenced to five year’s supervised probation and 100 hours of community service after a bed check originally led police officers to methamphetamines.

Dustin Armin Niemeyer, 38, of Spring Valley, was convicted Monday in Mower County Court for fifth-degree drug possession, a felony.

According to the court complaint, authorities received a complaint of a bad check from First Farmers and Merchants Bank and the Windmill Inn in Dexter on Aug. 21. An employee at the hotel helped officers locate and arrest Laice Jo Hoffman, 33, of Kasson, and Dustin Armin Niemeyer, 38, of Spring Valley. Hoffman also faces a fifth-degree drug charge.

According to the complaint, officers were looking for Niemeyer, who opened his hotel room door for officers and was arrested. However, officers also saw a light bulb used for smoking meth on a nightstand along with baggies that tested positive for meth residue, miscellaneous pills and a third-party check to the hotel.

Officers later arrested Hoffman. They executed a search warrant in her van on Aug. 22 and allegedly found a syringe, 0.2 grams of meth, three marijuana pipes and a digital scale.

Hoffman has yet to be sentenced.
