Mower farmers grow ideas for global market

Mower County corn and soybean farmers have a better idea about global supply and demand for their products thanks to market expert Sue Martin. She addressed the group at the Mower County Corn & Soybean Growers Annual Banquet at the American Legion in Adams on March 13.

“In the global markets, Brazil is our No. 1 competitor,” Martin said. “But the United States remains the top grain exporter internationally.”

Martin is president and owner of Ag & Investment Services with 35 years experience in the brokerage business. She can also be heard offering commentary on several radio stations in Illinois and Minnesota.

“Globally, soybean demand remains constant,” Martin added. “The foreign soybean production deficit is at 27 percent.”

U.S. soybean farmers are in a unique position to help meet the growing worldwide demand for soybeans. With suitable soil, advanced biotechnology and access to global markets, farmers in Minnesota can play a significant role in the food security of developed and developing nations around the world through soybean exports.

Prior to Martin’s presentation, the Mower County Corn & Soybean Growers held its annual meeting. Farmers Dan Nielsen, Bruce Nelson, Dale Bissen, Doug Sheely, and Gayle Bergstrom were re-elected to the board of directors.
