Free lunch program serving over 1,000 per day
Austin Public Schools is serving lunch this summer.
Austin’s summer lunch program for students has begun. Students ages 1- to 18-years-old can eat lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ellis Middle School or Austin High School.
“We’ve been having about 1,000 kids a day,” said food and nutrition director Mary Weikum.
The school served more than 35,000 lunches last year, according to Weikum. Lunches at AHS will take place through July 27, while lunches at Ellis will take place through Aug. 29. The service is open to any students, and adults can pay $3.50 to have lunch as well.
