Former St. Ed’s priest OK after car crash

Retired St. Edward’s Catholic Church priest Father Richard Loomis, 85, is reportedly doing well following a head-on crash Saturday morning.

According to a report by the Minnesota State Patrol, Austin resident Daniel Stewart, 28, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville south on Highway 218 north of Austin shortly before 2 p.m. when he collided with a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by Faribault resident Amy Snyder, 23.

Both Stewart and Loomis sustained minor injuries in the accident.

“He was OK, just shook up and kind of bruised,” said Loomis’ niece, Laurie Bursiek. The impact from the car’s air bags were what caused the bruising, she added.

While all those injured in the accident were taken by Gold Cross ambulance to the Austin hospital, Bursiek said Loomis was able to leave later that same day.

“He’s back home,” she said.

Snyder and her passengers — Fernando Marin, 25, and a juvenile — did not appear to be hurt in the accident.
