Amazing Race out of the blocks Saturday

Scavengers, get ready!

Relay For Life of Mower County will host the first annual Relay For Life of Mower County Amazing Race at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at Mill Pond Park.

The scavenger hunt event will raise funds for the Relay For Life Mower County, to be held July 22 in Austin.

Registration for the Amazing Race begins at 9:30 a.m. The fee to register the day of the event is $15 per team/car. A team is comprised of as many people as can get fit into one car.

All of the challenges are a test of skill or luck — they are not physical in nature, said organizers.

While time is of the essence, the race is a type of scavenger hunt. The event requires teams to travel to five locations, with a challenge at each stop. The first team to reach the end point will receive a Relay For Life Gift Basket that includes a ribbon fleece blanket, other Relay For Life items, and a $20 gift card to Perkins Restaurant in Austin.

All participants will get a piece of cake once they finish the race.

Funds will be added to those raised by the annual Relay For Life of Mower County event, which will be held from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Mower County Fairgrounds. A silent auction, vendors, kids’ activities and entertainment are all part of the day, and the Luminary Ceremony will begin at dusk.
