Fire officials to investigate cause of fire

The cause of a porch fire that happened just before midnight Tuesday is being investigated, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Krueger said Austin police and the Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at in the 700 block of Fifth St. NW.

When police arrived, the fire was contained to the porch area but was starting to climb along the outside of the house, Krueger said. Police slowed the fire with extinguishers from their squad cars before firefighters arrived.

One resident of the home exited out the back door during the fire and said she thought two more people were inside. Police searched the house and found no one but a dog. The dog and the resident were uninjured.

Krueger said the home did not sustain structural damage. There is no damage estimate at this time, Krueger said.
