Cities band together of free electronic recycling

Austin and Mower County are banding together to sponsor another free electronics recycling event this year.

Area residents can bring their old electronics to the Mower County Fairgrounds on Oct. 29 and to be recycled for free.

The event was spurred by the success of RE-Fest, which was held at Riverland Community College in September. One of the most popular aspects of RE-Fest was the free appliance and electronic recycling, according to city officials. The company contracted to recycle the items for RE-Fest said many people were turned away because so many residents wanted to take part.

The Oct. 29 event will cost the Austin Transfer Station and the Mower County Recycling Center $500 each.
