Mower County has two new deputies patroling its roads.

Sheriff Terese Amazi said Brian Schember and Peter Hillman were sworn in Tuesday morning.

Both Schember and Hillman are from the Clarks Grove area. Schember attended Riverland Community College for law enforcement training and began his career as a jailer in Steele County, according to Amazi. He was a transport deputy for Freeborn County prior to beginning work in Mower County.

Hillman graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and started his career about four years ago in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he worked until coming to the Mower County Sheriff’s office.

The deputies are replacing a deputy that was recently let go and another who is retiring in January, Amazi said.

“We wish them well,” she said.

Both men said they look forward to serving the citizens of Mower County.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Hillman said.

“We will conduct ourselves with the utmost professionalism and integrity,” Schember added.
