Mower Ag Society looking to better market fair

Some Mower County agriculture leaders are in the early stages of looking for help to better market the Mower County Fair.

Mower County Farm Bureau members went to the county board earlier this week to talk about a few of the Farm Bureau’s and Mower County Ag Society’s goals for 2016. One of its chief goals is to eventually hire a marketing director to promote the Mower County Fair and the fairgrounds throughout the year.

“It’s our feeling that the fairgrounds is one of the best fairgrounds in the state if you go around and look at other ones, and we just feel there’s a lot more with that fairgrounds to generate more income to put towards the fair and to bring people to Austin,” said Mower County Farm Bureau President Marlin Fay said.

Fay promised they’re hard at work on plans before to promote the ag society and fair grounds it makes any requests of the board, which could happen later this year or next year.

“This is something that we’re going to continue to work on,” Fay said.

Fay also noted some members of the fair board are dedicated to growing membership in the future.

Farm Bureau members also called for the board to keep the fair free and to continue supporting the 4-H program.

“We all know it’s a worthwhile program,” Fay said.
